Netanyahu Says Israel Must Reduce Reliance on U.S. Weapons

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel must reduce its dependence on American weapons and build its own independent munitions production. He made the remarks during a meeting with reserve officers at Kibbutz Migdal Oz in Gush Etzion, where he urged the military and defense establishment to expand domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Netanyahu linked the call for greater self-reliance to Israel's security challenges, especially the confrontation with Iran and the terrorist groups it supports. He said the campaign against Tehran is not over, adding, "Now we are facing Iran and its proxies. We have hit them. It is not over yet, but it depends on our strength."

He also said Israel's future in the coming decades will be determined by its military and technological strength. "Where we will be in 30 years depends on our strength," he said. "That is why what we are doing now is building greater strength."

The prime minister said he values the aid Israel has received from the United States, but insisted on a domestic weapons system. "I want munitions independence. I really appreciate the support we have received, and have received over the years, from our American friends. Today I say, we need our own independent munitions system. We produce our own munitions," he said. He added that Israel must keep investing in technology and in training the next generation of IDF commanders.
