יושב ראש מפלגת המחנה הממלכתי, גדי איזנקוט, קרא לראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו ולמפלגת הליכוד לפרסם באופן מיידי את מטרות המלחמה שאושרו בתחילת המלחמה, ב-7 באוקטובר. איזנקוט טען כי בניגוד לטענות הליכוד, ממשלת ישראל התעלמה מהשבת החטופים בעת ניסוח מטרות המלחמה הראשוניות. לדבריו, החזרת החטופים שולבה במטרות המלחמה רק ב-16 באוקטובר, בעקבות דרישתו, ולא הייתה חלק מהן קודם לכן. איזנקוט שלח מכתב דחוף בנושא לראש הממשלה.
