Vietnam Stadium Nears Completion Ahead of Schedule

Vietnam's "Truong Dong" stadium, slated to become the world's largest, is nearing completion, with construction significantly ahead of its original August 2028 deadline. The project, which began in December, is now expected to be fully finished by July 2027. The stadium is designed to hold 135,000 spectators, dwarfing existing large venues like India's Narendra Modi Stadium and North Korea's May Day Stadium. For comparison, this capacity is approximately 4.5 times that of Israel's Sammy Ofer or Teddy Stadiums.

Key construction milestones are currently underway, including the erection of massive support columns and lifting towers, some nearly 80 meters high. These towers will utilize a hydraulic system to lift and position hundreds of tons of steel for the roof structure, which itself will weigh tens of thousands of tons. The stadium's skeleton is expected to be completed by December, followed by the installation of the dome, electro-mechanical systems, and the playing field.

The stadium's design draws inspiration from Vietnam's ancient bronze drums, a cultural symbol, while incorporating futuristic technology. Features include the world's largest retractable roof, a movable grass field that can be brought outside for maintenance and sunlight exposure within 6 to 10 hours, and advanced crowd management and communication systems. The entire structure, including a retractable roof, is scheduled for completion by May 2027.
