Vietnam Stadium Nears Completion Ahead of Schedule

Construction of Vietnam's "Truong Dong" stadium, slated to become the world's largest, is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed in July 2027, over a year ahead of the original August 2028 deadline. The stadium, designed to hold 135,000 spectators, is currently installing massive support columns and lifting towers, nearly 80 meters high, which will be used to erect the dome. These towers will work with a hydraulic system to lift steel arches weighing hundreds of tons into place, supporting a steel roof structure weighing tens of thousands of tons.

The stadium's frame is scheduled for completion by December, followed by the construction of the dome, electromechanical systems, and the playing field. A retractable roof is planned for installation by May 2027. Upon completion, Truong Dong stadium will surpass India's Narendra Modi Stadium and North Korea's May Day Stadium in capacity. For comparison, its capacity is approximately 4.5 times that of Israel's Sammy Ofer or Teddy Stadium.

The stadium's design is inspired by ancient Vietnamese bronze drums, a local cultural symbol, and incorporates futuristic technology. This includes the world's largest retractable roof, a movable grass pitch that can be moved outside for maintenance and sun exposure within 6 to 10 hours, and advanced crowd management and communication systems.
