כוחות הביטחון עצרו מחבל בבית חולים ברמאללה, לאחר שהסגיר את עצמו למקום. פרטים נוספים אודות זהות המחבל ונסיבות האירוע טרם פורסמו. המעצר בוצע במסגרת פעילות שוטפת של כוחות הביטחון למניעת פעילות טרור.

הפרסום המקורי כלל תגובות רבות ושונות, חלקן קשורות לפוליטיקה הישראלית וביקורת על ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו, וחלקן קריאות לפעולה נגד מחבלים ומשפחותיהם. חלק מהתגובות אף השתמשו בביטוי "תם עידן נתניהו סופית!".
