Arab Israeli Man Killed by Border Police After Chase, Crash

An Arab Israeli man, Alaa Mahamid, from Umm Al-Fahm, was killed on Thursday by Israeli Border Police officers following a police chase and car accident. According to the Israeli Police, the incident began on Route 65 and concluded within the city. Reports indicate Mahamid had previously been stopped and handcuffed, but managed to escape in his vehicle.

During the pursuit, a traffic accident occurred before police and Border Police forces managed to stop him again. Police stated that Mahamid exited his vehicle during an attempted arrest and attacked a Border Police officer, who then fired his weapon, claiming his life was in danger. Mahamid sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical teams.

The police reported that Border Police motorcycle officers on tactical duty in the Umm Al-Fahm area noticed a suspicious vehicle on Route 65 and signaled the driver to stop. The driver, identified as Mahamid, did not comply and fled. Mahamid's family, citing Walla news, stated he suffered from mental health issues and had previously been admitted to the Sha'ar Menashe Mental Health Center. The police statement did not address his health condition, and an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
