Israel's Ministry of Health has ordered a recall of ground black pepper products sold under the "Gal Spices" brand, manufactured by Tevel Spices and Food Products Ltd. The recall was initiated after laboratory tests conducted by the ministry revealed elevated levels of aflatoxins, a type of mycotoxin, exceeding permitted limits. The ministry stated that the product was manufactured in violation of regulations.
The affected products include ground black pepper in 50-gram bags, and 50-gram, 80-gram, and 120-gram plastic jars. The recall applies to all products with expiration dates up to and including February 2028.
Aflatoxins are naturally occurring fungal toxins that can pose health risks, potentially leading to long-term illness and damage. The Ministry of Health advises consumers who purchased the affected products not to consume them.
