Education Minister Kisch: No Classes Tomorrow, Matriculation Exams Canceled Until Sunday

Education Minister Yoav Kisch announced today (Monday) that there will be no classes in the education system tomorrow due to the escalation in fighting with Iran. He said this during a briefing for reporters, after a round of consultations with senior officials from the Education Ministry, local authority heads, representatives of regional councils and other partners.

Kisch told reporters, "Tomorrow will be an organization day for the education system in order to allow each authority to open schools under restrictions. On Wednesday there will be a return to in-person learning under a protected framework." He stressed that the ministry's policy is to work toward a return to face-to-face learning as quickly as possible, subject to Home Front Command instructions.

During the briefing, the minister said the gap created between approval for workplaces and economic activity and the ban on opening the education system was unreasonable. If opening the economy is approved near shelters, then the education system should also operate under a protected framework. In this context, special emphasis will be given to restoring special education, programs for at-risk youth, informal education and preparations for end-of-school-year events.

Regarding matriculation exams, the education minister stressed that they will not be held at all under fire. "Until next Sunday, there will be no exams at all. The matriculation exams are canceled until Sunday," he said.
