בעקבות הסערה הבינלאומית שעורר הסרט "נז"א", פנו גורמים בצה"ל לשב"כ בבקשה לסיוע בחקירת הנושא. בשלב זה, השב"כ טרם מעורב באופן רשמי בפרשה. גורמים בארגון הביטחון מסרו בתגובה כי הם ממתינים לפנייה רשמית מצד צה"ל, אשר צפויה להתקבל לאחר קבלת החלטה בנושא על ידי הפרקליט הצבאי הראשי, איתי אופיר, בשיתוף עם היועצת המשפטית לממשלה, גלי בהרב-מיארה.
