עבודות תשתית שבוצעו בשכונה חרדית במערב קריית גת במהלך חג ראש השנה עוררו סערה ציבורית. התיעוד של העבודות במהלך החג התפרסם ועורר תרעומת. בתגובה למקרה, משרד הבינוי והשיכון הבהיר כי עבודות בשבתות ובחגים אינן מאושרות, וכי הנושא נבדק מול החברה המבצעת. בקרב חברי הכנסת החרדים נרשמה שתיקה רוב, למעט חבר כנסת אחד שגינה את המקרה בחריפות ותיאר אותו כ"חמור מאוד ומצער".
