Hapoel Jerusalem's Galin Smith Hopes for Stability, Open to Mid-Season Exit

תורגם ותומצת מתוך N12 על ידי baba
The story · English

New Hapoel Jerusalem basketball player Galin Smith, who is also a naturalized player for the Croatian national team, expressed his desire for stability in his career during an interview with Basketballsphere. Smith, who has played in five different countries, signed a two-year contract with the Israeli club, his longest commitment since playing in Berlin.

Despite the contract length, Smith acknowledged the uncertainty of professional basketball, stating, "I have a two-year contract, but they can cut me in the middle of the season." He hopes for two good years with the team, aiming to help them win the EuroCup and reach the EuroLeague.

Smith reflected on his journey, mentioning that his "PS5 always comes out of the suitcase first" when moving. He also spoke about his time in Germany, which taught him to be more sociable and enjoy the present moment, as he may not revisit past locations. When standing for the Croatian anthem, he contemplates the sacrifices made for national independence.

He discussed the effort to restore Croatian basketball's reputation and his competitive drive, which stems from comparing himself to peers, even those who didn't make it professionally. Smith also shared that his first act with his earnings was helping his wife complete her master's degree. His greatest fear outside of basketball is feeling helpless.
