Public warned not to use industrial hydrochloric acid sold to consumers

Israel’s Commissioner for Standardization at the Ministry of Economy and Industry has issued a public warning against using a product sold in consumer outlets as “Industrial Hydrochloric Acid 30% to 32%.” The product was manufactured by Ali Salama in Israel and poses a chemical exposure risk.

In a test conducted by the commissioner through the Hermon Laboratory, the product was found not to meet the requirements of the official Israeli standard that applies to it, Israeli Standard 2302 Part 1 on hazardous substances and mixtures, covering classification, labeling, marking and packaging. Officials said that when such a product is marketed or sold to the general public, it must include a child safety mechanism, meaning a child-resistant package, regardless of any label claiming it is intended for industrial use.

The ministry also said the product is not labeled in accordance with standard requirements. Anyone who has the product shown in the photos is instructed to stop using it immediately, and sale of the item in stores is strictly prohibited.

The commissioner stressed that it is forbidden to manufacture, sell or import any product that does not meet standard requirements under Section 9(a)(1) of the Standards Law, 1953. The Standards Administration said it will continue routine and targeted checks on products covered by official standards, and noncompliant items may lead to both administrative and criminal sanctions.
