ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו הצהיר כי איראן מנסה לשוב ולהתחמש בנשק גרעיני, וכי נשיא ארצות הברית דונלד טראמפ אישר זאת. נתניהו הוסיף כי לאחר שהושמדה היכולת המיידית של איראן לייצר פצצות גרעין, היא מנסה שוב. בנאום שנשא בכותל המערבי לקראת ראש השנה, התחייב נתניהו כי כל עוד הוא מכהן כראש ממשלה, לאיראן לא יהיה נשק גרעיני. במקביל, ראש הממשלה ציין כי ישראל פועלת נגד הציר האיראני, לא רק ברצועת עזה, אלא גם בלבנון, שם הושמד רכס הבופור ומתבצע טיפול ברכס עלי טהאר, והדגיש כי הפעילות תימשך.
