Hospital Worker Punished for Trying to Sell Kate Middleton’s Medical File

A worker at London Clinic, the private London hospital that treated Kate Middleton, has been dismissed and barred from the profession after a privacy probe found he tried to access her medical records and sell the information. Britain’s Information Commissioner’s Office, known as the ICO, described the conduct as a “blatant breach of trust” and an “abuse of highly sensitive personal information.”

The incident dates to January 2024, when Middleton was secretly admitted to the Marylebone hospital for a planned abdominal operation and stayed there for 13 days. At the same time, King Charles was also being treated at the same hospital for an enlarged prostate, during which doctors discovered he had cancer. While social media was filled with speculation about Middleton’s condition, the employee is said to have deliberately tried to snoop in her file for profit.

The case first surfaced in March 2024 in the Mirror and reportedly stunned the hospital staff. After a probe lasting more than two years, the ICO decided not to bring criminal charges or issue a major fine, but only a formal warning. The worker was nonetheless removed from his job and stripped of his license.

Middleton could still file a civil lawsuit over the privacy violation, but sources say she does not plan to do so. Three days after the story broke, she released a personal video announcing that she had been diagnosed with cancer. London Clinic said this week it was pleased the “sad and isolated” episode had concluded and stressed that no systemic failings were found. Kensington Palace declined to comment.
