Kate Middleton and Children Jeered by Anti-Monarchy Protesters in London
Kate Middleton and her three children were met with loud boos during a ceremonial parade in central London marking King Charles’s official birthday. The family, traveling in the festive carriage procession toward Buckingham Palace, encountered anti-monarchy demonstrators from the group Republic, who carried umbrellas reading “Stop the monarchy” and shouted slogans including “Not my king” and “Not my queen.”
As Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis appeared confused by the shouting, Kate responded with an angry, dismissive look that was captured on video and spread rapidly online. The incident was widely discussed and drew strong reactions across social media.
Supporters of the princess said the backlash was especially harsh given her recent battle with cancer. One popular post on X said, “To boo Catherine when she is with her children is a despicable act.” Another wrote, “They are children, for God’s sake. If I were their mother, I would be furious too.”
The episode also reignited debate over the royal family’s decision to expose children to public events likely to draw protests. Critics argued that Prince William and Kate should not have “paraded” their children at an event with known demonstrations. Others said the monarchy’s celebratory display felt disconnected from public concerns in Britain, including the migration crisis, murders and the cost of living. Despite the protest, the ceremony continued as planned, with thousands of spectators watching the military display.
