UEFA Fines Hapoel Tel Aviv Heavily, Bans Away Fans Over Pyrotechnics
UEFA's disciplinary committee has imposed significant penalties on Israeli football club Hapoel Tel Aviv following incidents during their Conference League qualifying match against Atalanta on August 20, which ended in a 0-0 draw. The club has been fined a total of 43,000 euros and banned from selling tickets to its fans for its next away game in European competitions.
The sanctions stem from the activation of a suspended penalty issued on August 5, related to the lighting of flares by Hapoel fans. This resulted in the ban on selling away tickets. In addition to activating this suspended sentence, UEFA levied a new fine of 35,000 euros and imposed a new suspended sentence of a ban on selling away tickets for an additional match. This new suspended sentence is valid for a two-year probationary period.
Furthermore, Hapoel Tel Aviv was fined an additional 8,000 euros for causing damage to stadium facilities during the same match. UEFA has also instructed the club to contact Atalanta to arrange payment and compensate the home team for the damages incurred.
