Wall Street Closes for Labor Day Holiday, Nasdaq Plans Extended Trading Hours

U.S. stock markets, including the NYSE and Nasdaq, were closed on Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day. Regular trading will resume on Tuesday. Investors are reminded that two more full trading days remain in 2026: Thanksgiving on November 26 and Christmas Day on December 25. Additionally, the trading day after Thanksgiving, November 27, and Christmas Eve, December 24, will see early closures at 1:00 PM New York time.

The trading calendar for 2027 has also been released, featuring closures for New Year's Day (January 1), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 18), Presidents' Day (February 15), Good Friday (March 26), Memorial Day (May 31), Juneteenth (June 18), Independence Day (July 5), and Labor Day (September 6). Thanksgiving will fall on November 25, and Christmas will be observed on December 24.

In parallel, Nasdaq announced a significant change: beginning December 6, 2026, it will introduce an overnight trading session from 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM New York time, moving towards 23-hour trading days, five days a week. While regular trading hours will remain unchanged, this expansion will significantly broaden the trading window for international investors. Current U.S. trading hours are 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM New York time, which typically corresponds to 4:30 PM to 11:00 PM Israel time.
