Israel's High Court Orders Military, Police to Justify Inaction on Palestinian Village Eviction

Israel's Supreme Court has issued a conditional order demanding the military, police, and Defense Minister explain why they have not acted to allow residents of the Palestinian village of Jalud to return to their homes. The villagers were reportedly forced to leave their residences following settler violence and intimidation, after which the settlers allegedly occupied the properties. The court also ordered authorities to justify their failure to remove blockades and obstacles hindering access to the homes.

Last week, Israeli forces were deployed to the village of Qusra in the West Bank after reports of Israeli rioters entering the area. The IDF and Border Police stated that dozens of rioters were found barricaded inside a Palestinian home while Palestinian residents were also present. Social media footage, shared by a Jalud resident via the organization "Watching the Occupation Through Their Eyes," showed dozens of masked settlers, dressed in black, traveling towards the village in white pickup trucks.

According to an official military source, IDF and Border Police units are permanently stationed in the Jalud and Qusra area until further notice. The rapid response last week prevented a potentially more severe incident. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the "heinous acts of violence" by a "handful of rioters," stating they harm law-abiding settlers, disrupt the IDF, and damage Israel's global standing. He praised the security forces for their swift action, confiscating three vehicles and quickly ending the incident. Netanyahu added that the IDF, Shin Bet, and police are conducting a vigorous investigation and expects swift arrests and prosecution of the rioters.
