Palestinian Women's Union Holds Second Conference in Qalqilya
The General Union of Palestinian Women, Qalqilya branch, convened its second conference on Saturday under the theme "Palestinian Women: A Journey of Steadfastness, Survival, and Giving." The event was attended by Qalqilya Governor Hussam Abu Hmeda, Fatah movement secretary Mahmoud Walwil, and other prominent figures including Dalal Salameh, a member of Fatah's Central Committee and the General Union of Palestinian Women's General Secretariat, and Ismat Al-Shakhshir, a member of the General Secretariat. Also present were Ra'eda Salha, board member of the General Secretariat, Hala Al-Hashem, head of the Qalqilya branch, Tarek Shawar, head of the Chamber of Commerce, and representatives from various institutions, national forces, and official and community bodies.
During the opening, speakers emphasized the resilience and steadfastness of Palestinian women in the face of challenges, highlighting their leading role in the struggle and nation-building as essential partners in Palestinian society. They stressed the importance of holding the conference amidst the difficult circumstances and challenges confronting the Palestinian people, underscoring the need to continue supporting and empowering Palestinian women and enhancing their role in all fields, in recognition of their steadfastness, contributions, and active role in building society and preserving national identity.
Speakers noted that the Union has always been an arm of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), playing a significant role in the national struggle and building state institutions. They affirmed that the Union's journey has been marked by sacrifices, work, giving, and achievements. The conference was described as a continuation of this national journey and the Union's ongoing role in serving the causes of the Palestinian people, reiterating that Palestinian women have always been central to the national scene and a key partner in the path of struggle, construction, and steadfastness.
