Fatah Official Discusses Election Preparations in Nablus

Dr. Ahmed Abu Holi, a member of the PLO Executive Committee and Fatah's Central Committee, held organizational meetings in Nablus refugee camps to finalize preparations for the Fatah election congress at the governorate level. The meetings, which took place at Fatah's regional headquarters in Nablus, included discussions with heads of popular committees and regional secretaries. Participants focused on organizational and electoral arrangements needed to hold the congress, emphasizing partnership, consultation, and strengthening the movement's unity and national role.

Abu Holi stressed the importance of these organizational events in revitalizing Fatah's activities, enhancing communication with its bases, and gathering proposals to select candidates who are trusted by the organization, capable of representing citizens' aspirations, and defending the Palestinian national agenda. He highlighted that candidate selection should be based on clear, objective criteria including competence, integrity, community presence, and organizational and national responsibility.

The attendees also discussed mechanisms for conducting the election congress with a comprehensive vision ensuring fair representation for all sectors, expanding participation, and giving special attention to youth, women, professionals, and people with disabilities. They also addressed current political and national challenges, particularly what they described as escalating Israeli aggression against Palestinians, attempts to undermine the Palestinian national project, and the targeting of refugee camps as symbols of the refugee cause and the right of return.

Abu Holi affirmed that protecting the camps, strengthening their residents' resilience, and defending refugees' rights, especially the right of return, are national and political responsibilities. He also noted the dangers facing the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), emphasizing the importance of preserving its role and mandate until a just and lasting solution for the refugee issue is found in accordance with international legitimacy, particularly Resolution 194.
