Gilad Erdan Withdraws Unity Party From Knesset Elections

Gilad Erdan, chairman of the Unity Party, announced on Friday, September 4, 2026, that his political movement will not participate in the upcoming Knesset elections. The decision comes about a month after the active election campaign began. Erdan stated that the party was formed with the goal of creating a broad Zionist government capable of passing a conscription law and bridging societal divides. However, he observed that the public's primary concern has shifted to the identity of the prime minister, diminishing the urgency for a unity cabinet.

Erdan explained that despite significant efforts, the Unity Party's support does not guarantee it will cross the electoral threshold, and attempts to unite with other parties in a "Unity Bloc" have also failed. He emphasized the importance of a responsible approach to prevent supporters' votes from being wasted.

The politician thanked his party leadership colleagues, including Yoav Gallant, Aliza Bloch, Oren Smadja, and Hazi Nchema, for their collaboration. Erdan concluded by stating that while the party is withdrawing from the elections, he intends to continue his public service activities to benefit citizens and IDF soldiers.
