Police close case over attack on Channel 14 reporter Milen Amr at Tel Aviv protest

Channel 14 reporter Milen Amr said on Tuesday that police have closed the case opened after she was assaulted while covering a protest in Tel Aviv in January. She had been reporting on a demonstration about violence in Arab society when, she said, a protester interrupted her work and attacked her.

Amr identified the man as Aaid Badir, an activist in the Democrats party. She said the incident included physical harassment, a shove to her microphone, and unwanted contact, and that the confrontation was documented at the scene. According to her report, the event happened while she was trying to cover the protest as part of her journalism.

Amr said she was surprised to receive notice that the case had been closed and said she is demanding explanations from both police and the state prosecution about the reasoning. She added that she was not given clear grounds for the decision despite the existence of video or other documentation of the incident.

In her remarks, Amr accused police of selective enforcement. She said the authorities’ response left open the possibility of filing an appeal, and that such an appeal could clarify whether the case was closed for lack of evidence, lack of culpability, or because it was deemed not in the public interest.
