Police Close Case of Woman Allegedly Attacked at Protest After Shouting 'Only Bibi'

Prosecutors have closed the case against suspects accused of assaulting a young woman with special needs during a protest in Tel Aviv on November 5, 2024, an event dubbed "Second Gallant Night." The woman, Batya Azran, claims she was attacked by a man and a woman after shouting "Only Bibi" at demonstrators protesting the dismissal of then-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. She stated she was pushed to the ground, choked, and had her knee stepped on, causing her to lose consciousness and sustain an injury.

Following the incident, police opened an investigation, arrested and questioned suspects, and reportedly treated the case seriously due to the victim's vulnerability and injuries. However, the Central District Attorney's Office decided to close the case, citing insufficient evidence to support the complaint. The prosecution stated that the suspects denied the allegations and that video footage of the event did not align with the complainant's account.

The victim's family expressed deep disappointment and confusion over the decision, questioning how an investigation involving arrests could conclude without charges. Some police sources also voiced frustration, noting that while they investigate, the final decision on prosecution rests with the State Attorney's Office, particularly in protest-related incidents.

Although Batya Azran's physical injury has healed, her family reports that the emotional impact remains. They are seeking an explanation for the case's closure despite the initial investigation and arrests, emphasizing their demand for clarity on why no one will be prosecuted.
