Assuta Hospital Finds No Record Errors in Sperm Donation Case

Assuta Medical Center announced Wednesday that its internal review of the sperm donation case at its Ramat HaHayal branch found no discrepancies in the records and documentation of its sperm bank and IVF unit. Despite the lack of procedural errors, the hospital recommended that the Ministry of Health conduct genetic testing on remaining sperm samples to verify their match with the registered donors.

This genetic verification would provide an additional layer of confirmation, comparing the administrative records with the actual biological material in the stored samples. However, Assuta stated that performing these tests requires the consent of the patient, as the samples belong to her. The hospital has requested her permission to proceed.

Two weeks ago, the Ministry of Health reported a concern that the sperm donor for a woman undergoing fertility treatments might not be a genetic match. This suspicion arose after the woman, who has a three-year-old child and recently gave birth to twins, noticed the twins were not identical. She then privately commissioned a genetic test abroad.

There is a possibility that the second twin is either from the same donor or a different one. The Ministry of Health confirmed it began investigating the case, including the private test and the laboratory that conducted it, while also professionally examining the matter with Assuta Medical Centers.

Assuta had previously stated that upon receiving the patient's inquiry, it immediately reported the situation to the Ministry of Health as required and launched a thorough investigation.
