Dolav Haziza Feels Betrayed by Maccabi Haifa Coach and Sporting Director

Dolav Haziza, a prominent player for Maccabi Haifa, has spoken out about his "betrayal" by the club's sporting director, Lior Rafaelov, and head coach, Barak Bakhar, leading to his departure. Haziza, who spent seven years with the club and became a symbol of its recent successes, including a Champions League campaign, felt blindsided when informed he was no longer in their plans at age 31. He described his exit as abrupt, taking his belongings in a bag and leaving without a formal farewell to Rafaelov or Bakhar, stating he felt deeply hurt and had lost faith in them.

Haziza recounted a meeting where he was informed of the decision, with Rafaelov doing most of the talking and Bakhar offering only brief remarks. He expressed disappointment that Bakhar, whom he considered a father figure, did not provide a clearer explanation for his exclusion. The player also criticized the club's handling of his departure, citing a premature social media post thanking him for his service while he still had a year left on his contract, which he felt was "disgraceful." He has since joined Maccabi Netanya, persuaded by coach Roni Levy.

Reflecting on his time at Maccabi Haifa, Haziza called it the "biggest part of his career" and a dream come true. He mentioned having received good offers from Europe previously, but the club insisted he stay, calling him the "most important cog." He also discussed the team's decline after the departure of key players and coach Bakhar, attributing it to the disintegration of the championship-winning squad and the immense pressure from fans and media.

Maccabi Haifa responded by stating that the decision to part ways with Haziza was made with professional considerations and communicated directly and respectfully. The club acknowledged his significant contributions and pledged to honor his legacy.
