Rabid Fox Confirmed in Upper Galilee; Four Exposed Seek Treatment

The Ministry of Health has reported a fox diagnosed with rabies in the community of Kfar Giladi in the Upper Galilee. Four individuals who came into contact with the infected animal have been directed to receive preventative rabies treatment. The notification regarding the rabid fox was received on August 31, 2026.

The ministry is urging anyone who, along with their pets, had contact with the infected fox or other stray animals in the area between August 15 and August 30, 2026, to urgently contact the Safed Health Bureau at 04-6994257 or 04-6994200, or the nearest health bureau to their residence to assess the need for preventative treatment. Outside of working hours and on weekends, individuals should report to the emergency room of a hospital.

Parents are specifically asked by the Ministry of Health to inquire with their children about any contact with suspicious animals and to contact the health bureau immediately. Pet owners are advised to consult their local veterinarian to confirm their animals' vaccination status. Information about this incident should also be disseminated to travelers and vacationers in the area and nearby communities.

The Ministry of Health reiterated its advice for anyone bitten or scratched by an animal to immediately wash the affected area with soap and running water, disinfect it, and then proceed to a health bureau to determine if preventative rabies treatment is necessary.
