Arkia Flight Diverted to Athens Amid Passenger Unrest

מאת כיכר השבת

The story · English

A flight operated by Israeli airline Arkia, en route from Israel to Mykonos, Greece, was forced to make an emergency landing in Athens due to a technical malfunction. Passengers reported that after the diversion, a commotion erupted inside the aircraft as some individuals demanded to exit the cabin against regulations. The pilot addressed the unruly passengers over the intercom, threatening to call the police if they did not return to their seats.

During the hour-long wait on the tarmac, a flight attendant was heard explaining the situation via the loudspeaker, apologizing for the inability to land in Mykonos and requesting that passengers refrain from violent behavior. The pilot reiterated his warning, stating it was his final request before contacting law enforcement.

Arkia confirmed the diversion was due to a hydraulic issue, stating the landing in Athens was routine and safe, as the airport offered optimal conditions for repair. Maintenance crews were working on the aircraft, and the flight was expected to resume its journey to Mykonos as soon as possible.
