  • Thailand reduces visa-free stays for Israelis from 60 to 30 days.
  • New rules limit land border entries to twice per year.
  • The change aims to balance tourism with security concerns.
  • Previous 60-day stays are honored if entry is before Sept. 15.
  • Policy follows incidents involving Israeli tourists in Phuket and Koh Samui.

Thailand will reduce the visa-free stay period for Israeli tourists from 60 days to 30 days, according to new regulations published officially and set to take effect on September 15. Israel is among 60 countries whose citizens will now be limited to 30 days for tourism purposes only, a change from the previous arrangement which also permitted short-term business activities or work.

The new regulations also impose a limit of two entries per calendar year through land border crossings. This measure aims to prevent the practice of visa renewal by exiting and re-entering Thailand via neighboring countries. However, individuals already in Thailand or entering before September 14 will be allowed to complete their full 60-day stay. Extensions of an additional 30 days can be requested from immigration authorities.

The Thai government stated the move is intended to balance tourism promotion with security and oversight concerns, citing fears of visa exemptions being exploited for illegal activities. This policy change occurs amidst heightened media and local attention on Israeli tourists following several incidents in Phuket and Koh Samui, which prompted local residents to call for further restrictions on foreign stays.
