Former Knesset member and retired police commissioner Yoav Segalovitz officially joined the Arab party Ra'am on Monday, ahead of the upcoming elections. The announcement was made at a press conference where the alliance was presented as a move to prioritize the fight against crime and violence.

Ra'am party leader Mansour Abbas stated that the party's focus is on the civilian issues of Arab citizens, particularly the pervasive crime and violence that threaten daily life. He emphasized that eradicating this issue is a top priority, not just a platform point, but a mission. Abbas explained that to achieve change, partnership is necessary, viewing others as human beings, not enemies. He asserted that Ra'am is not afraid of partnership, unlike some other parties.

Abbas further elaborated that Ra'am is initiating this partnership before the elections, rather than waiting until after. He addressed anticipated public criticism from both sides, stating that he seeks individuals who can do the job, not necessarily those who are similar to him. He argued that the issue of crime affects all citizens, not just Arabs, and that the weapon used in one town today could be used in another tomorrow. Similarly, criminal organizations extorting Arab shopkeepers also target Jewish business owners.

Segalovitz explained his decision to join, stating that while he does not intend to change Ra'am or its leader, and they will not change him, political cooperation is possible based on trust, recognition of differences, and a commitment to joint action. He acknowledged past grievances and a "bloody history" but stressed that leadership's role is to change reality and create a better future.
