Fan Arrested for Smuggling Flares Ahead of Soccer Match
Police in Tel Aviv arrested a 29-year-old man from northern Israel on Monday evening on suspicion of attempting to smuggle flares into Bloomfield Stadium. The arrest occurred before the start of a soccer match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa.
During targeted operational activity near the stadium, officers from the Tel Aviv district, along with Border Police officers, seized pyrotechnic devices that had been hidden on a bus carrying fans of one of the teams. Additional pyrotechnic devices were found on the arrested fan himself.
Authorities suspect the smuggled items were intended for use inside the stadium during the game. The investigation is ongoing.
