Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has accused Israel and Russia of spreading and amplifying false information regarding the recent migrant crisis in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Speaking in Spain, Sanchez claimed that networks associated with both countries disseminated disinformation around the influx of migrants into the North African territory. He suggested this disinformation campaign aimed to exploit the migration crisis to attack the Spanish and European governments, linking it to Madrid's disputes with Russia over Ukraine and with Israel concerning the Middle East conflict.

Concurrently, Sanchez absolved Morocco of direct responsibility for the crisis, stating that Spanish security and intelligence services had no information indicating involvement by Rabat authorities. He further noted that Morocco provided "immediate cooperation" with Spain during the crisis. The migrant crisis in Ceuta began in late July when a large number of migrants crossed from Morocco into the Spanish territory. Reports indicate that around 80,000 people entered Ceuta illegally on July 30 and 31.

Sanchez's statements come amid significant criticism within Spain and Europe regarding his government's handling of the crisis. Residents of Ceuta and opposition figures have accused the Prime Minister of inaction, with thousands of migrants still remaining in the enclave nearly a month after the crisis began. The European Union has also expressed criticism of Sanchez's immigration policies, with some leaders demanding a tougher response. By focusing on alleged external disinformation campaigns involving Israel and Russia, Sanchez appears to be shifting the public discourse away from the management of the border crisis itself, as domestic pressure mounts.
