With the start of the school year just a day away, a senior official in the Ministry of Education has accused the ministry's leadership of misrepresenting the extent of teacher shortages. The official claims that the data to be presented by the Minister and Director-General will falsely show only hundreds of teachers are missing, while the reality on the ground is a "catastrophe."

According to the unnamed senior official, the ministry is deliberately manipulating terminology, changing the term "teacher shortages" to "teacher needs" to create a more positive public perception. "They decided not to say teacher shortages but teacher needs, meaning how many teachers the system needs, because it sounds better," the official stated. "The field is screaming, everything is a catastrophe, and they are doing everything to paint a rosy picture."

Parents and students report that many classes still do not have assigned homeroom teachers. The shortage is so severe that in some cases, a single homeroom teacher is reportedly responsible for two classes simultaneously, even in the youngest grades like first grade. Teacher recruitment is ongoing across a wide range of subjects, and many classes remain uncertain about who their homeroom teacher will be when school begins tomorrow.

The ministry's leadership is expected to present figures suggesting the shortage has been managed and the school year will open as scheduled. However, sources within the ministry and educators in the field contend that the situation is far from the optimistic portrayal that will be presented to the public, with the official adding, "For them, let a cat teach, as long as they say they reduced the shortage."
