Bayern Munich kicked off their Bundesliga season with a commanding 5-1 victory over Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena on August 28, 2026. A standout performer was Ismaila Sarr, who came off the bench in the 61st minute and provided two assists, continuing his impressive form from the preseason where he also assisted against Leipzig. The Moroccan winger joined Bayern from PSV Eindhoven, where he played alongside Eran Zahavi and scored 15 goals with eight assists in his final season. Bayern paid 50 million euros for Sarr, a significant increase from the 5.2 million euros PSV paid Genk six years earlier.
Sarr's debut performance drew high praise, with DAZN noting his ability to outmaneuver defenders effortlessly and describing his play as "moments of pure magic." Journalist Anders Weiss predicted Sarr would be among Europe's best players this season, highlighting his two assists in just 30 minutes alongside striker Harry Kane as evidence of his great potential. Notably, Sarr is the first player since Toni Kroos in 2007 to provide two assists in his Bundesliga debut coming off the bench; Luis Diaz also achieved this but started his first game.
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany was asked if the team aims to break last season's record of 122 goals. He responded that points are more important than chasing records, though he acknowledged that pursuing goals is part of the club's DNA. Bayern's strong start signals their intent to maintain dominance in the German league this season.
