Irish Man Arrested in France for Threatening Jewish Tourists, Faces Trial in October

A 60-year-old Irish citizen, who identified himself as "Paddy from Ireland," was arrested in southern France after threatening a Jewish tourist couple from Australia in a supermarket near Avignon. The incident occurred at the La Ponte hypermarket, where a heated confrontation was recorded. The dispute reportedly began over football and escalated to discussions about Israel and Ireland's policies toward it. The woman involved testified that the man expressed regret that Hitler "did not finish the job," a statement not clearly audible in the video but attributed to the couple's testimony.

Following an investigation, French authorities located and detained the suspect on Wednesday, bringing him before the courts the next day. He admitted to the accusations, expressed remorse, and claimed his actions were driven by anger during the confrontation. The man has no known prior criminal record. He was released under judicial supervision and is scheduled to appear before the criminal court in Avignon in October.
