The death toll from recent flash floods in Nepal has risen to 475, according to reports from BBC on Friday. The floods, triggered by a massive ice and rock avalanche in the Himalayas near the Nepal-Tibet border, swept away villages and infrastructure in northern Nepal. Hundreds of tourists and locals remain missing, including one Israeli citizen who is currently out of contact. Nepal's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Luke Bahadur Chhetri, stated to Reuters that the country does not currently require external assistance for rescue operations, as local security agencies are managing the efforts.

The disaster struck particularly hard in the mountainous Rasuwa district near the Girong border crossing. Experts in Kathmandu believe that an ice and rock avalanche blocked a wide river tributary of the Bhote Koshi River, causing a sudden and massive water surge downstream. Nepal requested aid from India and China, but strong water currents have hindered helicopter landings in some areas.

In Tibet, Chinese state media reported 558 people missing due to the floods, including over 250 foreign nationals and the Israeli citizen. Rescue operations in Tibet have been temporarily suspended due to fears of further flooding after a newly formed lake began overflowing. The floods have disrupted roads, communications, and power supplies in the region. Israeli rescuer Hilik Magnus told Kan News that there is still no update on the missing Israeli's condition, noting uncertainty whether the lack of contact is due to isolation or more serious circumstances.
