Rabid Dog Found Again in Givat Ze'ev, Health Ministry Issues Urgent Warnings

The rabies outbreak continues in Givat Ze'ev, as the Israeli Ministry of Health reported the discovery of another rabid dog on Thursday in the Hai Bar Street area. This marks the second confirmed case within two weeks, following a similar incident last week in the Eilot Basin neighborhood. One person exposed to the infected dog has been referred for preventive rabies vaccination.

Authorities urge anyone who had contact with the infected dog or whose pets may have encountered the animal, or any stray animals in the area between August 15 and August 26, 2026, to urgently contact the Jerusalem Health Office at 02-5314820 or their nearest health office to assess the need for preventive treatment. After hours and on weekends, individuals should go to the emergency room at a hospital.

The Ministry emphasized that parents should check if their children have been in contact with suspicious animals and seek immediate health guidance. Pet owners are advised to consult their veterinary authorities to verify their animals' vaccination status. The public is also encouraged to inform hikers and visitors in the area and nearby communities about the situation.

The Health Ministry reiterated the importance of immediate first aid for anyone bitten or scratched by an animal: wash the wound thoroughly with running water and soap, disinfect it, and promptly visit a health office to determine if preventive rabies treatment is necessary.
