Maccabi Tel Aviv is set to face Lugano tomorrow at 19:00 in the decisive second leg of their Europa Conference League playoff, trailing 2-1 from the first match in Switzerland. Despite the deficit, Maccabi arrives with strong momentum and confidence following a commanding 5-2 victory over Hapoel Jerusalem in the Israeli Premier League earlier this week. Coach Kenny Miller expressed optimism at a press conference, noting that a 2-1 away loss is not a bad result and that the team has learned much from the initial encounter.
Miller acknowledged the demanding schedule recently, with quick transitions between the Toto Cup, league, and European matches, but confirmed the squad is well-prepared. He emphasized familiarity with Lugano, having faced them just a week ago, and highlighted the need to improve on certain aspects of their play. The coach also mentioned that some players remain injured, but the overall squad health is consistent with last week’s match.
A significant boost for Maccabi will be the expected return of their fans in the stands in Georgia, which Miller believes will create a more home-like atmosphere and provide crucial support. He praised the fans’ dedication and travel efforts, calling their backing exceptional and vital for the team’s success.
Concluding, Miller stressed the importance of the upcoming match, describing it as a great opportunity to secure a place in the group stage of a European competition. He said every player understands the stakes and is ready to meet the challenge.
