Israeli Border Police Commander Charged with Assault and Sexual Harassment of Female Officer

The Israeli Police Investigations Department (Mahash) has filed charges against a Border Police commander accused of assaulting and sexually harassing a female colleague under the pretext of a "initiation ceremony." According to the indictment, the commander, a squad leader in the West Bank, subjected the female officer, who had joined the force a few months earlier, to physical abuse and inappropriate conduct during an event at their Jerusalem base club.

The indictment details that the commander ordered the officer to turn her back and place her hands on a refrigerator, then repeatedly punched her in the ribs about 15 times for incorrect answers to his questions. He then forced her to remove her coat and continued questioning while hitting her abdomen and pulling her hair. The charges include assault and indecent acts, reflecting the serious nature of the misconduct during what was described as a "ceremonial initiation."

This case highlights ongoing concerns about abuse within security forces and the efforts of the Police Investigations Department to hold offenders accountable. The accused officer faces legal proceedings following the indictment submitted on Wednesday.
