New York Police Release Footage of Suspects Vandalizing Queens Synagogues with Motor Oil and Feces
The New York Police Department (NYPD) has released security camera footage showing two suspects wanted for vandalizing two synagogues in Queens last month. The incidents occurred on July 16 at the Young Israel of Hollywood synagogue on Francis Lewis Boulevard and the Young Israel of Jamaica Estates synagogue on 188th Street.
According to the NYPD, at 11:44 a.m. on July 16, the suspects entered the rear of the Jamaica Estates synagogue and damaged property by throwing bags containing motor oil and feces. They then fled on foot to a dark SUV. Later that night, between 11 p.m. and 6:20 a.m., the same suspects similarly vandalized the Hollywood synagogue. Worshippers discovered the mess outside the buildings during morning prayers.
The NYPD's Hate Crimes Unit is investigating the incidents and has appealed to the public for help in locating the suspects. New York State Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, an American-Israeli representing parts of eastern Queens, condemned the attacks, calling them "another appalling example of the ongoing hatred our community faces."
