Maccabi Tel Aviv Chooses Batumi for Its European Home Matches
Maccabi Tel Aviv announced on Monday, June 15, 2026, that it will host its 2026/27 European matches at Adjarabet Arena in Batumi, Georgia. The Israeli Cup holders said the move was chosen after reviewing all available options and because they still do not have permission to play in Israel.
The club is leaving TSC Arena in Backa Topola, Serbia, where it had played its European home games for the past three seasons. The Serbian venue was considered inconvenient and unattractive for supporters, while Batumi offers direct flights from Israel, shorter travel time and a modern stadium that can create a better home-like atmosphere.
Adjarabet Arena opened in 2020 and holds about 20,000 spectators. Batumi is a coastal tourist city, and Maccabi said the new location should allow as many fans as possible to follow the team abroad. In the club’s statement, it said it was pleased to announce the choice so supporters can accompany the team in Europe.
Because of its State Cup win, Maccabi will begin its European campaign in the second qualifying round of the Europa League, skipping one stage. It will start on July 23, with the return leg a week later. The draw for that round takes place on Wednesday, June 17, and the club is hoping for a favorable matchup. Possible opponents include Besiktas, Twente, Dynamo Kyiv, Tromso, St. Gallen and Hammarby.
