Maccabi Tel Aviv to Host European Home Matches in Batumi, Georgia
Maccabi Tel Aviv announced on Monday that it will play its home matches in European competitions this season at Batumi Stadium in Batumi, Georgia. Last season, the club hosted its European games in Bačka Topola, Serbia. As cup holder, Maccabi will begin its campaign in the Europa League qualifying rounds.
In a statement on its official website, the club said it chose Batumi after a “comprehensive review” of the available options and in an effort to let as many supporters as possible follow the team in Europe. The club said it will host its European matches in the 2026/27 season at Batumi Stadium.
Maccabi described the venue as a modern stadium opened in 2020 with about 20,000 seats. It said the ground is in one of Georgia’s main tourist cities and emphasized Batumi’s “high accessibility” for Israeli fans, citing direct flights from Israel, short travel times and convenient access throughout the week.
The club added that it believes the choice will allow many supporters to stay close to the team, create a home-like atmosphere in Europe, and provide the players with the backing that accompanies the club everywhere.
