Holocaust Survivor and Jerusalem Matriarch Chana Goldberger Dies at 100

Chana Goldberger, a revered Holocaust survivor and prominent figure in Jerusalem's ultra-Orthodox community, passed away at the age of 100, just one week after her birthday. She was the sole survivor of her family, who perished in the Holocaust, and was born to Matityahu Kein, a notable Hasid of Monok. After surviving the horrors of the Nazi genocide, she rebuilt her life with her husband Yosef Goldberger, a respected Satmar Hasid and follower of the Vizhnitz dynasty, settling in the Givat Shaul neighborhood of Jerusalem.

Their home became a center of Torah study, prayer, and kindness, where Chana Goldberger prayed daily for the spiritual education of her descendants. She lived to see a fifth generation of her family, with hundreds of descendants continuing in the path of Torah, representing a profound victory over the Nazi oppressors who sought to annihilate her lineage.

Her sons include Rabbi Moshe Goldberger of Lakewood, Rabbi Eliezer Goldberger, a leading Vizhnitz rabbi, and Rabbi Yisrael Shalom Goldberger, a dayan in Bnei Brak's Satmar community. Her son-in-law is Rabbi Moshe Avremovitz, a prominent Gur Hasid. Her grandson, Rabbi Chaim Avraham Goldberger, is a well-known activist in the Vizhnitz community. Chana Goldberger's funeral took place late Monday night at Har HaMenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem, where she was laid to rest with honors. She is remembered for her piety, devotion, and the legacy of a blessed and righteous family.
