Widow of Jerusalem Cantor Aryeh Goldberg Passes Away at 77

Gila Goldberg, the widow of the renowned Jerusalem cantor Rabbi Aryeh Goldberg, passed away at the age of 77. She was laid to rest on Thursday evening at the Shamgar Funeral Home in Jerusalem, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Germany in 1948 to Rabbi Nachman Diment and his wife Zelda, Gila was known for her exceptional kindness and hospitality, opening her home to those in need and young men who came to hear cantorial music at the Great Synagogue.

For about 20 years, she devotedly cared for her husband during his illness, earning admiration for her unwavering dedication. Family members described her as a woman of valor who supported her husband’s work and raised a blessed lineage. Following Rabbi Goldberg’s death about a year and a half ago, Gila’s health declined, leading to her recent hospitalization and passing.

Her funeral took place on the 23rd of Menachem Av, with mourners gathering at her residence on Yizrael Street 10 in Jerusalem, where the family is sitting shiva. Her loved ones remember her as a beacon of compassion and strength, and her soul is prayed to be bound in the bond of life.
