Israeli Educator and Holocaust Survivor Ilana Lederer Dies at 95

Ilana Lederer, a Holocaust survivor who immigrated from Austria to Israel as a child, passed away last weekend at the age of 95. She dedicated her life to education, teaching generations of students in various institutions including Noam. Lederer was also a nutritionist and reflexologist, providing care to many throughout her career. She was deeply committed to her Jewish faith, maintaining daily prayers and Torah study inspired by Rabbi Nechama Leibowitz.

Lederer’s family remembers her as a vibrant woman who remained active well into old age, continuing to swim and shop independently. She honored the memory of relatives lost in the Holocaust by lighting additional candles each Sabbath alongside those for her children and family. She authored two books: a poetry collection dedicated to her husband Nahum, and a memoir recounting her life story and family history.

Her legacy includes five children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a lifelong devotion to education, spirituality, and family. Her passing marks the loss of a cherished educator and matriarch who bridged the trauma of the Holocaust with a life of teaching and remembrance.
