Hadassah Ehrlich, Holocaust Survivor and Jewish Agency Pioneer, Dies at 100

Hadassah Ehrlich, aged 100, passed away recently. She was the wife of the late Israel Ehrlich, a senior member of the Jewish Agency's immigration department in Tel Aviv, and former chairwoman of the Chevra Kadisha in Tel Aviv. She was also the mother of the late Zhabo Ehrlich and Rabbis Itzik and Yigal Amitai.

Born in Europe, Ehrlich survived the pre-Holocaust era and immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1934 with her family, after her father had arrived earlier to prepare for their arrival. Her childhood was spent between Košice in Slovakia, Munkács, and the early settlements in the Land of Israel. Tragically, many of her relatives who remained in Europe perished in the Holocaust.

During Israel's War of Independence, Ehrlich volunteered with Magen David Adom. She married Israel Ehrlich, raised a family, and devoted many years to work, volunteering, supporting her parents, and preserving her family's memory. A documentary film was produced a few years ago, chronicling her life journey from childhood in Europe, immigration, family establishment, to her personal testimony about the loss of relatives in the Holocaust and the life she built in Israel.

Her funeral is scheduled for today (Monday) at 5:00 PM at the Nahalat Yitzhak Cemetery in Tel Aviv. Shiva will be held at Beit Shalom, 2 Sha'ar Yisrael Street, Tel Aviv.
