Netanyahu and Defense Minister Warn Hamas Against Drone and Balloon Attacks on Israel

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a joint warning to the terrorist organization Hamas amid concerns over attempts to launch drones and other airborne devices against Israel. This alert follows reports of Hamas developing capabilities similar to Hezbollah, including the use of suicide drones with fiber-optic guidance recently uncovered. There is also fear that Hamas may resume launching incendiary balloons and other booby-trapped flying devices into the Gaza envelope area.

The warning came after a high-level security meeting attended by Netanyahu, Katz, and the IDF Chief of Staff. The Prime Minister's office stated, "Israel warns Hamas that if the launches toward Israel do not stop immediately, the IDF will intensify operations to thwart those responsible and will evacuate populations from areas targeted by kites, drones, and balloons." Netanyahu emphasized that Israel will not return to the pre-October 7 situation and will not allow Hamas or any other Gaza factions to threaten Israeli communities or undermine citizens' sense of security.

This statement reflects a return to the Israeli strategy of gradual pressure and deterrence seen before the October 7 attacks, aiming to prevent escalation and maintain security along the Gaza border.
