Netanyahu Orders IDF to Target Drone Operators and Launch Sites in Gaza Amid Renewed Aerial Terror Threat

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to take decisive action against drone operators and launch sites in the Gaza Strip following a resurgence of aerial terror attacks targeting western Negev and Gaza envelope communities. Netanyahu warned of the lethal potential of even small home drones when armed and deployed in swarms, emphasizing the precision and difficulty in detecting such devices. He highlighted Israel's ongoing efforts over several years to develop advanced countermeasures against drone threats, describing it as a global challenge seen in conflict zones like Ukraine, Lebanon, and Iran.

In parallel, Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered immediate and forceful operations against the launching of balloons, kites, and drones from Gaza. The security establishment views each aerial launch as a test of Israeli forces' readiness and a threat to civilian safety. Katz declared that any launch would be treated as an act of war, with equal severity applied to all airborne devices regardless of whether they carry explosives. He stressed that Israel will not tolerate disruptions to southern residents' daily lives and vowed to respond with targeted strikes against Hamas leaders and operatives responsible for these attacks, as well as clearing neighborhoods used for launches.

The directives come amid reports of another incendiary kite detected over Kibbutz Kfar Aza, with local residents warning of long wires attached to the devices and Hamas attempting to test flight paths similar to Hezbollah's tactics. Netanyahu's instructions to the security forces are clear: "Do everything against this lethal tool, strike it, its operators, and its launch sites to protect our citizens everywhere." Katz reiterated that all involved in organizing or enabling these attacks will face the full force of Israeli law and military response.

This escalation reflects Israel's heightened alertness to aerial threats from Gaza and its commitment to preventing a return to the pre-October 7 security situation.
