Defense Minister Katz Orders IDF to Act Forcefully Against Gaza Balloon and Drone Attacks
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has instructed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to immediately and decisively counter the launching of incendiary balloons, kites, and drones from the Gaza Strip toward communities in the western Negev. Katz ordered all necessary measures to prevent these launches, including targeting Hamas operatives responsible for organizing and executing the attacks, striking terror infrastructure, and evacuating neighborhoods and areas used for these launches.
Katz emphasized that every launch is considered a military act, stating, "A balloon is treated the same as a kite, and a kite the same as a drone, whether carrying explosives or not." He stressed Israel's commitment to fully protect its communities and warned that the policy will also target those who assist in the launches, even if they do not carry them out directly.
The defense minister made clear that Israel will not allow a return to the situation prior to October 7, underscoring that anyone organizing, launching, or enabling these attacks will face immediate and severe consequences. "We will not allow a return to the reality before October 7, and all those involved will be dealt with promptly and with full severity," Katz declared.
