14-Year-Old Arrested for Extorting Peers in Tel Aviv Protection Scheme
A 14-year-old boy was arrested by Tel Aviv South police on suspicion of extorting and threatening peers for money in exchange for "protection." The suspect allegedly contacted several minors via TikTok, demanding payments and threatening physical harm if they refused. The victims, also teenagers, paid some money out of fear, but the suspect continued to demand more and even requested new clothing details from them as part of the protection arrangement.
The case came to light when one victim's parents noticed suspicious messages and reported them to the police. Investigators from the youth division opened an inquiry, identifying two victims involved in the extortion. On August 19, 2026, the suspect from central Israel was detained and questioned. Evidence collected during the investigation confirmed the suspect's repeated threats and demands for money.
The youth court in Tel Aviv extended the suspect's detention multiple times. The Tel Aviv District Youth Prosecution Unit has now filed a formal indictment against him, with a severe charge expected to be submitted soon. The police released the chat records as part of their public statement on the case.
