Official: Sasha Obradovic Named Hapoel Jerusalem Coach
Hapoel Jerusalem has appointed Serbian coach Sasha Obradovic as its new head coach, the club announced on Monday, June 15, 2026, after Yotam Alon ended his stint following a disappointing season. The move brings in a veteran with extensive EuroLeague experience to lead the team in Jerusalem.
Obradovic, 57, arrived after his second spell at Crvena zvezda Belgrade, which ended when he was dismissed in November 2024. He had been hired at the start of the 2025/26 season after Yanis Sferopoulos was fired, got off to a strong start, but the team later slumped, finished 10th and was eliminated in the play-in.
As a player, Obradovic won the Korać Cup with Alba Berlin and also played for Virtus Roma, Budućnost and Cologne. He later coached Cologne from 2005 to 2008, winning the German league in 2006, the club’s only championship, and the German Cup in 2007. His coaching career also included Kyiv, Donetsk, Alba Berlin, Lokomotiv Kuban and Monaco, where he served in two separate spells from 2019 to 2020 and from 2021 to 2024.
With Monaco, he led the club to its first-ever EuroLeague Final Four in 2023 after knocking out Maccabi Tel Aviv in the playoffs. His trophy haul as a coach includes two French league titles, one French Cup, one German league title, four German Cups and one Russian Cup.
In his first remarks, Obradovic said he was “very happy” to join Hapoel Jerusalem and chose the club because of its “vision, standards and high ambitions.” He said the goal is to build a strong, talented and fighting team that will compete for every trophy. Club owner Matan Adelson said Obradovic’s appointment reflects the organization’s determination to meet its ambitions and begin “a new chapter” aimed at reaching the highest levels of European basketball.
